cozy home decor

It's October which means it is time to cozy up our homes for fall!

Cozy home decor can be as simple as adding in extra texture with blankets and pillows. Warm colors from nature also will cozy up any space.

Here are my 5 top picks for filling your house with cozy home decor this season.

Add a chunky knit throw to your sofa or chair, even your bed for instant coziness.

Candles are always a must. Fall scents will make your home smell so good and the flickering of the candle light is so cozy.

Faux fur is also a must for me to cozy up your home for fall.

Besides being pretty, faux fur pillows are so soft and are great to curl up with.

Keep your feet warm with a fuzzy wool rug underfoot. The texture in this rug just screams warmth and coziness.

Keep your footsies warm and cozy with these great slippers.

Now grab a cup of coffee and get to cozying up your home!
What are some ways you add warmth to your decor this time of year?

Friday favorites

Welcome to Friday favorites! That time of the week where I share completely random things that I am currently loving, hating, wanting, or buying.

No rules, just random stuff for you!

This past week I have been thinking all things fall. The leaves are changing, the nights are getting shorter, and it is super chilly in the mornings.

Since I have been on the whole 30 diet I have not been able to eat as much junk as I used to, thank goodness. So when I want a mocha or hot chocolate, I rely on this. Even though it isn't whole 30 approved, it is still dairy free and much better for you than regular chocolate milk. I literally buy it by the case right here.

I also just discovered these and oh man, they are to die for! They literally taste like a mounds bar.

I really want to add a lot of faux fur to our home this year. There's nothing cozier than curling up on the couch with a soft fuzzy blanket. This one in particular looks extra soft.

First impressions are everything. I love, love, love this entryway.

I love these farmhouse paint colors. There is not one that I don't love.

Have a fabulous weekend!
xoxo

one room challenge

Hello there!
I am so excited to be participating in the One Room Challenge as a guest participant once again!

The One Room Challenge is the only way I can get a project done in 6 weeks, no backing out now!
Better Homes And Gardens will be selecting 2 guest participants to be featured designers in the 2019 ORC, so the pressure is on!

Thank goodness I have a really good "before" room.

I will be making over our guest bathroom. It is in desperate need of a makeover. The room was built in the 1950's and with the exception of a few band aid fixes, it has remained the same since then.

I have painted over the years and put some cosmetic touches on, but nothing has been done to bring it totally up to date.

Not only that, but I am pretty sure the shower leaked at some point, and I bet you when I rip up the floor I will find a lot of rot. Goody goody.

Ok, are you ready for the before? Brace yourselves.....
Ok, so this was 18 years ago.

But it's not that much better today.

This really is going to be a challenge because the space is very tiny. Currently there is a tub/shower combo to the right of that sink.

The plan is to get rid of the tub and install a walk in shower.
All new floor will be going in.
The popcorn will be removed from the ceiling and it will get all new drywall.
I have big plans to make this tiny space have big style so I hope you will follow along!

This week I will be starting the demo. I will be doing everything myself {with a bit of help from my husband} so I am expecting a few hiccups along the way, but hopefully nothing I can't handle.

Halloween decoration ideas

Today I have some great Halloween decoration ideas for you! I love decorating this time of year and decorating for Halloween can be so much fun. I will show you what I have done in our home, and hopefully you can take away some ideas for yourself!

At the bottom of this post I am linking up to more home tours with Halloween decoration ideas, so be sure to read through to the end. You will not want to miss all the fabulously spooky ideas!

Decorating for the season starts right at my front door.
Halloween decor doesn't need to be gory or bloody, it can be done in a tasteful manor too.

For my front porch display I used a table I purchased at HomeGoods, filled it with pumpkins and gourds, then carefully placed it right side up.

I think it kinda looks like a pumpkin jail, but it keeps my pumpkins safe from our puppy who thinks they are toys to play with.

I bought a basket at HomeGoods the same day so I could play with the scale of it in the store.
Then a few fall plants from the nursery were all that was needed to finish it off!

* quick tip when planting in a basket. Line with a trash bag as it will keep your basket from rotting.

Similar doormat can be found here.

In the kitchen I create a candy corner with paper bats and a fun message on the chalkboard door.
I filled these jars with black licorice, oreos, and yogurt covered pretzels.

I love how the paper bats appear to be flying up to the sky.

Inexpensive white cobwebs cover the laundry room chalkboard door with it's whimsical saying.

Around the corner in the dining room is the spooky Halloween cocktail bar. You can read more about it right here in this post, along with a FREE printable!

Right off the dining room is the living room with black and white and orange for the holiday.
Most everything I decorated with was either something I already had, something I made, or something I picked up inexpensively at discount stores. You don't need to spend a lot of money to change the whole look of your rooms for the different seasons/holidays.

This is one of my favorite stores for Halloween decoration ideas and fun finds. I also find a lot of items here and at different areas of the store here.

easy bruschetta recipe

This easy bruschetta recipe is so easy and a good one to keep in mind with the holidays approaching.
Any recipe that looks fancy, but is super simple to make, count me in.
This bruschetta is colorful, tasty, and is simple to whip up.

Be sure to pin these because these would be so pretty at Christmas when you are going to all those parties.

My friend gave me jars of pickled beets and I have been using them on everything. I love beets, and I love goat cheese, the combination is so good. This is such an easy bruschetta recipe.

Yield: 12

Easy Beet & Goat Cheese Bruschetta

ingredients:

  • 1 loaf baguette sliced on diagonal
  • 1 jar pickled beets {or beets of your choice}
  • 1 T. olive oil
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 4 ounces goat cheese
  • basil for garnish

instructions

  1. After slicing your baguette, brush pieces with olive oil. Brown them under the broiler watching carefully. Remove to a wire rack to let cool.

Mix 4 oz. cream cheese and 4 oz. goat cheese.

Place a good sized dollop on each bread slice leaving an area in the center for the beets.

Add the desired amount of beets, and garnish with fresh basil.

Patina Farm

Patina Farm is a really really special place that I recently had the pleasure of touring.
The owners, Steve and Brooke Gianetti were gracious enough to open up their home for a book signing by my friend Courtney from French Country Cottage for the launch of her new book.

Patina Farm home exudes grace and charm, and every detail was carefully thought out.
Antiques cover the walls and include most of the furnishings.

Etsy has a great selection of oil landscapes right here. Look for ones with subtle, muted, earthy, colors.

You can find almost the exact same sofa here.

The Patina Farm dining room sits right off the main living area and is filled with French antiques.

Steves office is well curated and everything has a place.
Find similar wall sconces right here.

Sketches are kept in tubes on a great unfinished table.

They have used scaffolding planks all over their home for shelving and such. Years ago we made a custom closet with scaffolding. You can see that right here.

I love how they have decorated their home with pieces from their travels.

A little spot in the hallway with the coolest vases I have ever seen.

I found this mirror on Etsy which looks very "Patina Farm"
White linen bedding makes this space so cozy.

This blue striped pillow mixes well with oatmeal linen bedding.

More scaffolding in the bedroom. I love this!

The weather in California was just perfect. Walking around their property and seeing all the flowers, trees, and animals was truly a treat.

Climbing roses and vines growing over everything. It looks like this house and plantings have been there for 100 years.

Do you have the Patina Farm book or the Patina Style book?
Both are chalk full of beautiful photos and inspiration.

I hope your Monday is off to a great start!
xoxo
