~a new fireplace project~

Fair warning~these are bad i phone pics. 

 Here is our fireplace.

Originally it was a wood burning fireplace, which is why there are vents.

Somewhere along the line, years ago, we converted it to gas, and this is the insert we chose. 

We have lived with it like this for years, and while it isn't horrible, the size of the insert looks so tiny in comparison to the rock surround.

 So I came up with this super quick sketch.

I would love to have a piece of black steel welded, maybe even with big rivets, to make the whole insert more substantial, and to cover up the vents.

I don't think I will ever stop coming up with things to do/make/have made.

One more thing to add to my honey do list.
