My Sweet Savannah's Valentines Day Favorites

Valentines Day is a holiday that I love to decorate for. Simply touches though, nothing over the top.
Here are a few things that I like to decorate with that keep my subtle neutral decor in mind.

update on Savannah's room

In case you missed it, I talked here about how I am giving Savannah's room a little face lift.

I just wanted to pop in and give you a little update on what stage I am at. I have sold, stored, and gifted many of the items in her room and have started purchasing new.

The goal of this room is to go from teen girls room to a more guest friendly room, while still keeping Savannah's personality and taste in it, as she does come home from college a few times a year.

I don't want to totally transform it to the point where it doesn't feel like hers when she comes home in March, but I do want to spruce it up!

I ordered a new bed. Her current bed is OK, but if you look closely, there are a lot of dings and dents, even dare I say nails sticking out where a diy project went wrong. Instead of taking the time to fix it, I went with a similar bed, only in metal. The price was too good to be true for a king frame. It just arrived, and I will be digging into the box soon! I hope I love it! I was inspired by this bed on one of my favorite blogs.

I think I will be happy with the color and finish of the one I ordered.

I also ordered new sconces. I am getting rid of the brass {love my lights though and will save them in hopes I can use them somewhere else}

I also ordered roman shades for the big windows behind her bed. These windows have always been a dilemma for us. I am not a huge fan of window coverings but realize when they are needed for privacy, they are needed.

The shades I chose are going to be gorgeous linen roman shades from Barn And Willow. Their drapery is phenomenal and I know I won't be disappointed! I went with a color called Stone Grey, which has a slight denim blue to it in the lighting in her room. Super excited for these!

Part of her artwork is moving to her apartment with her, and part is being stored in the attic for when she gets her own place out of college.

Here is a computer mock up of a gallery wall I worked on with Minted for her room, the art that is coming down in order to make this room more guest friendly. You can read about the process of this gallery wall in this post.

I am streamlining the look with 3 LARGE pieces of black and white art instead of a cluster of art.
Here are the pieces I picked out:

1- A bend in the road by Kisco Print Shop in 30x40 with a champagne silver frame
2- Path of life by Kisco Print Shop in 30x40 with a champagne silver frame
3- Plant cell 6 by Mary Gaspar in 30x40 with a champagne silver frame

I still need new nightstands, a new chandelier, and I need to finalize paint colors which I am torn on!

Stay tuned for updates and be sure to comment on this post, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

xoxo

home office refresh

I LOVE my readers! I really do. Not only do you continue to support my blog by reading it everyday or week, but you come out to shows I am doing, classes I am giving, and hiring me to give your homes a fresh start.

Recently a reader contacted me to give her home office a refresh. Let me start by saying this girl is so cute and hip, and her home is a reflection of that. It's current, stylish, and fun.
However, she had that one room that was always neglected, as some of us do.

Her home office was a mish mash of her parents hand me down furniture as well as pieces she had leftover from college.

Wanting a more grown up, pulled together look, she called me.

I spent a couple hours with her in her home as we talked about ideas, etc.
We came up with a plan to sell some of her current furnishings to make way for new.

The only thing she needed/wanted to keep was her sofa. It was super heavy and being on the third floor, a nightmare to move out. Besides that, it was in good shape.

In that initial meeting we talked budget and I came up with some new big pieces for her to purchase.

A new desk, a desk chair, a coffee table,  a floor lamp,  wall shelves, and a pouf.

She purchased everything online.

While she was waiting for the new pieces to arrive, she sold her old pieces on Craigslist.

After everything arrived I came over and we went shopping together for accessories and art.

We went to one store. HomeGoods. She had spent most of her budget with the furnishings, so HomeGoods was the perfect place to find affordable pieces to finish off the room.

We didn't know if we could find everything in this one stop, but we did!

If you are in the Seattle area and are interested in hiring me to do the same thing, or something similar, please feel free to email me to discuss. This is what I love to do!
{lakeliving4@yahoo.com}

Let's start by looking at her room before:

Here are the after photos, which I apologize, I forgot my camera so they are grainy from my phone and the cloudy day.

I love the shelves {big pieces linked above in bold type} The finish is amazing, I need to find a spot for them in my house.

In the before pictures you can see she had collages of photos above her sofa. I had her pick out her favorites and we re framed them and placed them on the shelves and desk top.

The art ties the colors all together nicely. There is a lot of silver, whites, and greys in this room with pops of blue.

The faux fur blanket and pillow add that extra depth and coziness.
Where I don't think she spent time in this room before, I am sure she will be now!

I actually have this same desk, and love it, which is why I recommended it.
The lamp light is perfect in here.

This fun new floor lamp is a bit more hip that her other one, so much more her.

The candle holders are marble and silver and were a clearance score at $7.00 a piece!
If you know me at all, you know I like to group things in trays.

The pouf adds some texture and color and is great for extra seating as she will host book club in here.

Working with pieces my clients already have is my specialty! I love "shopping" from peoples homes, as well as incorporating beloved pieces of furniture.

This chair is not only stylish but it's very comfortable. It would work in a masculine or feminine space.

I also had her order a large taller leaning mirror in a silver finish for the wall the current mirror is on.

And this clock for a bare entry wall.

That's it! super easy, super fun!

Let's make over a room in your home. I work with any budget and any style, what are you waiting for? :)

Friday favorites

This new product has saved me. Living with 3 dogs who all sleep in our bedroom can get messy. Knowing that this silent purifier is doing a hard working job 24 hours a day is a huge peace of mind. It destroys mold, dust mites, bacteria, viruses, pollens, pet dander, organic odors, and other organic allergens. It also reduces harmful indoor ozone levels, and has an adjustable night light.

These look super soft. They aren't real cashmere, but I wonder if anyone would ever know?
Such a great price point!

And speaking of imitations or knockoffs, I wonder how the quality is on
these? Seems like it's worth the pennies to save hundreds, even thousands.

I have found the best selection of vases to be sold at this big box store. They have a wide variety and all are very on trend. I have these which I absolutely love.
This one will be my next purchase!

I am currently crushing on all neutral plaids right now, and I really love this pillow.
I love everything in this whole plaid department!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! I cannot believe it's almost February.

diy wood heart Valentines

This Valentines Day, add some rustic farmhouse elements with fun wooden hearts.
These are easy to make and add such a fun touch.

This project was prompted from some wooden hearts I saw while vacationing in Mexico last month. I was so inspired to make some of my own, so that's just what I did.

Feel free to use my template below, or use your own heart shapes.

Start by selecting your wood. I used barn wood, but you can use any scrap wood you have laying around.

Using a pencil draw a freehand heart on your wood, or trace one using my template below, enlarging to the size you'd like.

Use a jigsaw to cut out the heart shape.

Sand any rough edges. Paint, stain, or leave as is.

If you'd like to take it a step further and do a laced heart, simply trace each half of a heart onto a separate piece of wood, cut out and sand. You will be left with two halves like this.

Measure and mark with a pencil where your holes will go.

Using a drill with the appropriate size bit, drill the holes.
Lace up with leather trim, twine, or ribbon, knotting in the back.

Display them grouped in a bowl or create a wooden heart garland to drape across a window or fireplace mantle.

Copy and save this template if you wish to use it.
Print out and enlarge hearts to the size you'd like. Cut out, and trace the outline onto a piece of wood and cut out following the instructions above.

Happy crafting!

no bake truffles

With Valentines Day quickly approaching, I thought it appropriate to share a very easy recipe that looks very impressive.

Treat your loved ones to delicious no bake truffles. I could eat these for dessert every night with a glass of wine and be one very happy lady.
Chocolate + wine = one happy mama.

I hope you enjoy this recipe and try it out soon.
Pin it if you'd like to save it for later.

I used a combination of clear and gold sprinkles. I plan on making another batch with white chocolate and pink heart sprinkles as the holiday gets closer!

Happy no baking!

inspiring blogs and instagram feeds

I will admit, I am one of those to spend probably too much time on my computer or phone looking at pretty pictures, diy tutorials, or new products, etc.

But today I thought I would share a few blogs and instagram feeds that are super inspiring to me. They never disappoint and I gather a ton of inspiration from them daily.

Some are oldies but goodies, and some are newer to me. Some I am sure you have heard of, and some maybe not. The point is, I love to share the love, and hope to inspire people, not only with my designs, but sharing other peoples as well. We all work so hard for what we love and do, so why not!

The first blog I want to share with you is called The House Of Silver Lining. O M G.
Click on the link for her home, the forest modern, and prepare to be blown away.

This room in particular is just so good.

I like her shop-able posts because we all want that ease right?

I mean, look at this kitchen girls!
That's what dreams are made of right there. Would you believe those lights are from World Market? I love how she mixes high and low pieces.

You can also follow The House of Silver Lining on Instagram right here.

Another blog I want to share with you is Remington Avenue. Mysha posts a lot of diy and renovations, as well as gorgeous inspiring photos.

This diy hanging bed is genius and it's now on my bucket list to build it.

Look at all the detail in their living room.
You can follow Remington Avenue on Instagram here.

Next up is Jillian Harris. I have loved her since her Bachelorette days, and I love her home.

Believe it or not, one of my favorite posts she did was on her garage! It's full of storage and organization and it makes me so happy.

I also love the homes exterior.

You can tour her home here, and be sure to follow her on Instagram as well.

Living With Landyn is another fun one. If you like bright white clean spaces, as well as beauty tips and fashion, this is your girl. She has a very popular Instagram account as well.

I love her pool house and her living room, two of my favorite spaces.

And the final one I would like to share with you today is Blackband Design. They create the warmest clean spaces and I think you'll really like them. Here is the link to their Instagram.

I hope you can find some new inspiration in these inspiring blogs and Instagram feeds!

Friday favorites

Happy Friday!

This week I am loving the clean colors and lines on this patio set. Can you tell I am ready for Spring and Summer?

Wouldn't it be darling with this umbrella?

And how about with this cute doormat? 1/2 the price here as it is on Wayfair!

The pink poms on this basket are just too cute.

I got this perfume for my daughter for her birthday and now I want it!

Speaking of gifts, this would be a great gift for any girl to receive this Valentines day.

These are the best blankets.

I hope you all have the best weekend!

inexpensive lighting options

There is such a wide range of pricing when it comes to lighting.

If you are looking to add stylish inexpensive lighting options to your home, look no further!

Take this floor lamp for example. It only looks expensive, but it's so cheap!

This metal floor lamp is a steal at under $100.

This flush mount light is minimalistic and stunning.

A pendant lamp that could either look boho, beauty, or modern, depending on what style house you have.

This little guy would be darling in a kitchen or on some shelving.

Would you believe it if I told you the pair of these lamps is only $43.00?

I am in love with these lamps!

I hope you enjoyed my pics!
