~Friday Favorites~

Friday favorites starts with a beauty product I could not live without!
Being a redhead and having sensitive skin is not always the funnest.
Who doesn't like to have a soft tan and growing skin?
Unfortunately, I am allergic to self tanners that contain the ingredient DHA, which makes the tan last on your skin.
All my life I have tried to find a product that will not wash off, and one that will give my skin color, and last, and not smell.
After doing extensive research, I found this product and have used it for the past couple years. If you are sensitive to self tanners, don't like the orange stinky self tanners, and would like to try and more natural product, I HIGHLY recommend this.

Here is a funny doormat I think most of us can relate too!

This is such a cute classic bench for an entryway.

I can see it piled high with these pillows.

This would be a great decor piece for a wedding, or a wedding gift.

These are a must have for spring.

Check out the warehouse sale at Pottery Barn for up to 75% off!

20% off wine and dine sale happening over at Crate and Barrel.

I don't know about you, but when I see a good sale on Christmas items, I like to stock up. I think this would be a great hostess gift for the holidays.

Love these modern house numbers.

Sur La Table is having a huge cookware sale that only happens twice a year!
Now is the time to buy that Le Creuset you've been eyeing, at 45% off!

Have a great weekend friends!

~adorable robins egg easter cookies~

I wasn't sure if I would be able to pull these off, and while they are not perfect, they are super cute.
I used the cookie and frosting recipe from this post. I tinted the frosting to a robins egg blue using baby blue, green, and yellow gel food coloring.

I also couldn't find a single egg shaped cookie cutter so I ended up using a plastic egg shaped dye cup from Target and it worked perfectly.

After you pipe on your frosting, or spread it on, use a clean toothbrush or paint brush to "speckle" on the brown using watered down brown gel food coloring.

I hope you try out this recipe for Easter this year!
If not, be sure to pin it to Pinterest for future reference.

~rearranging in Cody's room~

Do you remember reading my post on tips for getting your house ready for spring?
If you missed it, you can view it here.
On that list was rearranging furniture, and that is exactly what I did in Cody's room.

You saw his new desk in yesterdays post, and here is the rest.
I moved his bed facing the other direction. It just made more sense in this room with the shape and size. Much better.

I also had these wood blinds in boxes that I ordered about a year ago. Finally got them  up!
Another thing I have had forever but never put up, is these ledge shelves.
His room is the perfect spot for these, and I have 3 out of 4 up, progress!

I moved a leather club chair from the basement and angled it at the foot of his bed for TV watching.

None of the bedding is new, I just rummaged through our linen closet and found some linen pieces I love, and mixed them in with his existing bedding.

I swapped dressers with his sister and brought this wood one in.
I topped it with vases that were in our dining room.

It just goes to show, you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a whole new look. In this case, I spent none! My husband is very happy :)

~a chalk paint desk makeover for Cody~

I wasn't really in need of a new desk for Cody, but I when I saw this at a thrift store for $24.00, I just couldn't pass it up.

The cream color was perfect, and the handles were perfect, but the top was a little orange for my taste. So I brought it home and painted the top with Annie Sloan Graphite and sealed it with black wax.
I love how it looks in his room!
What do you think?

Such a quick fix for a large piece of furniture.

~happy spring~ {a free printable for your door}

I first discovered that you can use a sharpie on glass when I was at a friends house for drinks.
She left a sharpie out by the wine glasses to write our names on them.
I thought she had been mistaken, but then she showed me how easily sharpie comes off glass.
I was shocked and had to come up with another way to do this!

I decided a fun under 5 minute spring project was in order, so I made our doors a little more festive with this "happy spring" lettering.

This is seriously so easy and you can customize it to say anything you want.
I can't wait to do happy Halloween, be merry, happy birthday, and so on and so on.

The first thing you need to do is create a word document with your lettering.
I used the font "bromello"

If you would like to use the same one I did, simply print out the printable below, adjusting the size to your liking.

Next, cut them out and tape them to the outside or your door or window.
{make sure your glass is squeaky clean for this}

Then from the inside, trace over the lettering with a white sharpie.
When you are done, you can pull the pattern off and touch up any imperfections.
Simply Windex off when you are ready to change it up.

~Friday favorites~

If you are new to my blog, welcome!
Friday favorites is a fun post I do once a week to share with you some of my favorite things I have found on the web. It might be home decor products, sales happening, home tours, fun Instagram accounts, creative artists, you name it!

As summer gets closer and closer I start daydreaming about taking family camping trips in our camper. Our neighbors just got a new airstream, and while you don't need an airstream to enjoy this book, it's a fabulous read and got me all inspired.

To see the coolest RV, check out this Instagram account. It makes me want to give ours an overhaul!

I am drooling over the simplicity and color scheme of this kitchen, See the before and afters of this house, right here.

I have a custom piece of art from this cutie, coming my way! I cannot wait to see it in person and share it with you all!

I am loving all things brass right now and this is a great price for a giant

 curtain rod!

And I am so getting this necklace. Now I just need to decide which letter!

If there was a scent for Spring, this would be it.
Although it is hard to break away from my favorite Ginger & Saffron candle.

I don't think I will ever get tired of marble and gold. This is a beauty.

~from trash to treasure~{Thrifty Thursday}

I am so excited about todays Thrift Thursday project!
I think I may have mentioned before that I am taking part in the upcoming Home Depot Patio Style Challenge.
I ordered a new patio set from Home Depot and it came in a giant box with tons of packaging material. Most of it went in the trash or burn pile, but this black metal frame had me intrigued.
It seemed too good to just toss, so I came up with a project for wall art on our deck.

I wanted to pick up on the colors of the lake and the trees, so I went with a blue/green color scheme.
I started with a few 1x6 pine pieces and ripped some down on the table saw to create varying widths.
Then I cut them to length and dry fitted them in the frame to make sure they would fit.

Then I selected my paint colors and bought a quart of each.
I also distressed the boards a bit first by roughing them up with a hammer, sandpaper, a drill, etc.
I painted multiple coats of different paint on each board so that when I sanded them down in the end they would look like old chippy pieces of wood.

Colors from top to bottom:

Glidden Shaded Fern
not pictured, Benjamin Moore Antique Jade

After the paint was dry I sanded each one individually and topped them off with Annie Sloan Black Wax.

Then I predrilled holes in the sides of the metal frame and screwed each board into place.
My husband hung a wire on the back and voila!

I love the colors in it and I love how it looks with this old painted galvanized bucket.
It was such an easy fun project that cost little money and I feel good about recycling at the same time!
If you are interested in this post, you can shop the below:

~an organized pantry~[my fave essentials}

Pantry organization is huge. Organized and neat pantries are all over Pinterest and in magazines.
I love having an organized pantry.
It is so much easier to find what you are looking for when things are nice and tidy.

Heather Bullard has one of my favorite pantries.

I love how she uses jars, and baskets, and metal containers to keep everything in.
Behind these doors I have incorporated some of the same things.

Here are a few of my favorite pantry essentials to get this look:

~sparkly white bunny cookies recipe~

My favorite go to recipe for these cookies is by my friend Jenny Keller. They are easy to make, no fail, and are super yummy.
Find Jenny's recipe here.

After you have frosted them, simply turn upside down onto a plate filled with sprinkles and push down gently to coat. These are the sprinkles I used.
This is the exact cookie cutter I used.

Aren't they the cutest?

~5 tips for getting your house ready for spring~

This is a fun time of year for me to give our house a little freshening up.
Here are some simple steps you can take to get your house ready for spring.

1~UPDATE YOUR PILLOWS
Swap out velvet or heavy wool pillows for linen or cotton.
Stick to lighter colors, or if you prefer, go bold with bright colors.
In our living room I took out our black and white pillows and replaced them with chambray, white linen, and a soft blue and cream pattern.

2~USE FOLIAGE & PLANTS

Nothing says spring to me like fresh flowers.
They don't have to be anything fancy. I like using monochromatic flowers, but any amount of greenery will add an instant fresh look.
The grocery store is my favorite place to pick up flowers.

3~REARRANGE FURNITURE

This costs nothing and can be so satisfying.
Try moving things from the bedroom to the living room, or vice versa.
I brought in this bigger lighter table to our living room and it made all the difference.

4~ADD SOME COLOR

Believe it or not, even I like color! Just little pops here and there in accessories will make a room look really happy. I used books with bright colors in a basket under our coffee table to achieve this look. Try looking for books at the thrift store or at discounted stores that are in your color story.

5~CLEAN

This might sound obvious, but start by dusting surfaces, wiping down baseboards, and washing windows. I use these cleaners because they smell so good!
These come in a close second!

~Friday favorites~

Tomorrow is my husbands birthday! Did you try my lucky leprechaun treats?
They are so yummy.

I recently bought a chambray pillow for our couch and I am sort of obsessed with the color and now want to do everything in this color.

I am thinking about adding these to my Easter table mixed with peachy pink flowers.
Isn't that gorgeous?

Or maybe even better are a linen version.

I am thinking about adding a white and gold lamp to my living room shelves.

I just planted a row of these in our yard and the color is so pretty! And they are perennials so I only had to plant them once and I can now enjoy them year after year.

Did you see that World Market is selling juju hats? Just like the one above my bed, and they are on sale!

These look so real!

Look at all the yummy new spring decor at one of my favorite shops!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

~thrifty Thursday, a West Elm knockoff~

Let me ask you this. Would you rather spend $179 + on some shelf decor, or $6 for approximately the same look?

You might have noticed on my Spring home tour I added a lot of white accessories to our living room shelves.
I was inspired by these vases from West Elm.

So pretty, so simple and clean.

I headed down to my thrift store and bought six 99 cent vases in a variety of sizes.

Now, you may already have some vases that would work.
Take a look around your house and see if there is anything that would suit this project.

Gather them up and simply spray paint each one white. You don't need to worry about the inside, but I did do the inside of the lip on each one.

This is the spray paint I used. I went through 2 cans, but I also sprayed some other things.
This paint dries really fast which is nice.

Then just bring them inside and display however you'd like!

Oh the power of spray paint, gotta love it!
