~a mountain ranch home tour~

This mountain ranch home by Nicole Davis Interiors was featured in Elle Decor and I can see why!
I love the mix of rustic and modern in this home, the use of weathered woods and metals, just about everything.

Similar chandelier can be found here.

Similar rug can be found here.
Similar blanket here.

Similar bar stools here.

Similar cement tile can be found here.

Similar art here.

This gallery wall is just too good. I love how it wraps around to both walls.
Similar frames here.
You can find a great selection of vintage style lighting right here.

I love the pop of blue in these pillows!

Similar horse art here.

What lucky kids!

A juju hat, just like the one over my own bed!

That view is to die for.

This is a different color way, but still a really close match to that back splash tile!

It's all in the details.

~frozen pink grapefruit cocktail~

With Valentine's day fast approaching, I have all things pink on my mind!

These drinks are sure to be a hit with your girlfriends and are so simple to whip up.
I don't know about you, but this winter weather, rain day after day in Seattle, has me dreaming about summer and frozen drinks.

Cheers friends!

~heart shaped peanut butter cookies~

What's better than a peanut butter cookie?
A heart shaped peanut butter cookie!

{pin this image for later}

Simply use your favorite peanut butter cookie recipe, and then roll each ball in sugar.
Flatten each cookie on the baking sheet with a cup dipped in sugar first.
Then with a knife, cut out a small triangle at the top of each one.
Using your hands, shape into a heart.
Press a fork onto each side and
bake according to your recipes instructions.

Here is the recipe I used.
Happy baking!

~Friday favorites~

Today's favorites all have to do with the upcoming holiday~Valentines Day!

I normally don't decorate for this holiday, but a few things here and there are fun. I also like to gift my kids something sweet and fun on this holiday.

I also think it's a fun holiday for crafting. One year I made this heart sign.

Another year I made this heart pillow.

Do you see a theme here? Everything is neutral!
Valentines day doesn't need to be red or pink.

I love this tablecloth made out of paper.

How cute are these yarn wrapped hearts?

This print is available for instant download.

I have always loved this piece of art.

The best selection of Valentines cards if you don't want to make your own.

I wouldn't mind receiving this for a Valentines day gift.

These cute pajamas are over 50% off!

Do you decorate for this holiday?

~new bookshelves & how to style them~

You know that feeling when your Christmas tree comes down out of the living room and you are left with that bare empty space?
And then your mind starts turning thinking how great something else would look there besides the old furniture that was there before?

Well, that's what happened to me, and for a couple weeks after the tree came out, our room sat like this with 2 big empty holes on either side of the fireplace.
There is all our tv equipment and cords resting on a temporary table until I found the perfect pieces.

Then a light bulb went off and I remembered a bookcase I had seen from Room And Board, and then I had that moment of, ah ha, that is exactly what this room needs!
I quickly got out my tape measure and ta-da, perfect fit!
Perfect fit, perfect price point, and in stock, my kind of furniture for sure.

Before I show you the after photos, I wanted to share with you a little bit about why I chose these bookshelves. There is several reasons really.

1~ I wanted something that would match our new Restoration Hardware coffee table and the color and the lines of the Slim Bookcase worked perfectly with it.

2~ I love how the dark steel anchors the space, they are super sturdy and will last us a lifetime.

3~ These pieces are very versatile. If in the future I ever want to switch things up {which I doubt I will} these pieces will go nicely in a den, bedroom, or office space, even a kitchen.

4~ I wanted a place to showcase and house my growing collection of books. There is nothing I like better than a neutral backdrop with pops of color, and my bright books on these black steel shelves with white walls would do just that.

Then came the fun part of styling them!
Here are some things to remember when you are styling your bookshelves:

When using books, and DO use books, stack them horizontally and vertically. Select books with a certain color scheme to go with your decor. Get creative with your bookends. To see how I made my concrete spheres, go here.

Add baskets or trays. I added distressed wood crates from TJ Maxx to each bottom shelf. One houses all the puppy's toys, and the other magazines.
These are good for tv remotes, controllers, etc. as well.

Display favorite decorative objects. For me, these were my blue and white ginger jars. For you it might be a piece of art, or something you collected on your travels.

Don't be afraid to stack items. For example, I placed a pretty blue and white bowl on top of a pile of books.
On another shelf I placed a fun little card game on top of a stack of books. Have fun with it!

What do you think? Just what the room needed in my opinion.
You can shop the look below!

~a new bed for Cody~

I am so excited to share with you Cody's room with a few updates.
He has been begging me lately for a "couch" instead of a bed in his room.
The decorator in me said a big fat NO.
BUT, then we went to a friends house and saw this bed that looks like a couch.
And bonus, it has a pull out trundle bed!
Cody always is having sleepovers and we are always in a dilemma as to where to put the extra kids.
This bed not only serves the "couch look" he wanted, but also offers that extra bed that we have been searching for, a win win for both of us!
The extra bonus is that it came in a queen size, so we didn't even have to buy a new mattress.

We decided to take down his curtains and we hung a flag from the rod instead. I think it gives the room that bit of color that it needed.

Most of his bedding and pillows are from Ikea except for the lumbar pillow and the grain sack pillows.

~And here is the best part~

The bottom just slides right out to reveal a twin size bed, which we still need to get a mattress for.

Sleepover issues solved!
I think this bed is classic and it will last him a long time.
The price point was very affordable as well.
Birch Lane has a wide variety of other styles to choose from as well, right here.
