~Friday favorites~{& labor day sales}

It's Friday and we made it to the weekend!
This week was a crazy busy one for me. Working, back to school shopping, getting ready for some fall projects, and doing some yard work.
I am happy it's the weekend even though it too is going to be a busy one.

Have you been noticing the shift in decor items in stores lately. Fall is making it's way out and I couldn't be happier as it is my favorite time of year.

Soft chunky blankets, boots, and Starbucks Pumpkin Spice lattes are even back.

This time of year I find myself wandering around HomeGoods and TJ Maxx quite a bit looking at all their new goodies.

We are getting a new Old Navy in town and these might be one of my first purchases there. I just love camo.
Look at some of these cute outfit ideas!

I just bought the cutest aviators from here.
Have you heard of these exfoliating cubes?  I am going to try to make my own. Stay tuned for the DIY version.

Check out this sweet feature on the Hello Lovely Studio blog on my home.

~shop this look~{farmhouse kitchen}

I found this fabulous kitchen remodel on Houzz and thought it was so perfectly executed for that farmhouse feel.
Kudos to Case/Design Remodeling on this job.
Just look at that sweet pup!

Get the look of this reclaimed island right here.
This gathering basket is the perfect combination of wood and metal for that farmhouse feel.

There are so many good elements in this design. Let's start with the lighting.
These swing arm sconces are the perfect pieces for directional lighting and are extra special against the light walls.
The faucet lends to a industrial vibe.
And I love the knife block set!
Make note that if you cleared off all the counters in this kitchen you would be left with 3 color tones of white, black, and natural. But see how easy it is to add color in with flowers, fruit, and other accessories? Who said white kitchens are going out?!

The white Kitchenaid mixer is the perfect accessory to this all white kitchen.
That range hood is to die for.

A single task lamp is all that is needed in this small work space.

Isn't this kitchen dreamy?!
Hope you are having a great day!

~healthy oatmeal zucchini bread~

I found this recipe here and was intrigued by the word "healthy" in the title.
I made the recipe exactly the same, but instead of muffins I made bread. The only difference was the cook time. It turned out fabulous and it's a great way to use up those zucchinis this season!

Pin this photo so you can save the recipe, it's that good!

~Friday favorites~

This past week I have been really getting excited for fall. It is still August but September and October are right around the corner!

I just discovered this sugar & cream scent by Barr and I am hooked. It smells like fall to me. Like brown sugar baking. Yum.

This table setting is gorgeous. I am really loving this rich slate blue color lately.
These glasses would be great with that style.

To me, fall is the season for setting pretty tables with friends and family gathering around. I love the finish on these chargers, they aren't like the typical plastic ones.

This is gorgeous and it is going on my wish list. I'd actually like 2!

Looking for a wedding gift? These would be cute paired with this.

Have a great weekend!

~ideas to take away from home staging~

Confession time.
When I was in my late teens, early 20's, I used to drive around on the weekends looking for open houses.
I loved, and still do love glimpsing into peoples homes, seeing their decor styles, and how they live.
Fast forward many years where I myself have staged many homes for sale.

I always find it fascinating to go into a clients home who and "recreate" it if you will to make it approachable from a buyers perspective.

Every single time without a doubt, the homeowners will say, "why didn't I think of that?!"

So today I thought it would be fun to peek into some staged homes for sale.
Why? Because there are lessons in these staged homes that you can apply to your everyday decorating.

The biggest thing is decluttering and this is simple.
When you have company over do you have random boxes or piles of paper you shove into a closet to hide? Everyone's done this right? I do it too!
It's because people don't want to see your junk.
So clean off those counters, go through your books, and games, candles, and vases, and donate things you don't use regularly.

In This home the owners had already moved out, so it was a clean slate.
The stager brought in clean comfy couches and ottomans in a neutral shade.
Notice how simple everything looks. You want your eye to have a place to rest.
Now, you don't need to have your home this sparse, you do live in it indeed.
But notice the lack of clutter on the coffee table, the color palette, and how the lamp by the TV ties in nicely with the couch color.
Linen tufted sofas can be found here.
Fresh flowers are a must too.

The same home is showcased beautifully in the sauna with rolled white towels and white robes. It shows a bit of luxury and makes it feel like you are at a spa.
This is a great way to make your own bathroom feel like a spa.
roll up some white towels in a basket and simply hang some lush robes.
Instead of busy artwork, opt for a gorgeous framed mirror.

This home is so charming and sits on 5 acres!
Again, it has been staged.
Let's see what we can take away from the photos.

This kitchen is staged perfectly.
Notice how every single blender, toaster, and coffee maker is tucked away. You don't want your kitchen to look like Home Depot. Only leave out what you use daily and tuck everything else away behind doors. I love the simple centerpiece on the island. It doesn't have to be decorative. Place your everyday fruits in a gorgeous wood bowl, it's functional beauty!
The clear vase in the corner holds branches simply clipped from the yard. Notice how it draws your eye to the greenery outside. If this vase was a color like say red, your eye would go immediately to it and it would look out of place.
More white flowers in a white vase and again some neutral soap and lotion is all that is needed by the sink.
Notice how the rug ties into the color of the counter tops too.

This bathroom in the same home is gorgeous.
The green wreath adds a pop of color. Again, notice the white towels and white candle.
The shower curtain has a pattern to it but is still neutral.
No toothbrush holders out, or magazines. Very simple, and all that is needed.

The coffee bar in this listing shows how something that we all need on a daily basis {caffeine} can also be so pretty!
While it is staged for the listing, this is a look that you could live with day to day!
White trays, baskets to hold coffee, pedestals, and everyday items on the shelves.

Moral of the story is this.
Look at listings online or even go to some open houses!
You will find great ways to get your home looking in tip top shape.
It's kind of like looking through magazines or catalogs.

~zucchini frittata~

I have shared on Instagram and here that I am doing the whole 30. In fact, I am on round 2 because I love how it makes me feel.
I am always looking for new recipes that are whole 30 approved, and if they are successful and yummy, I am sharing them here with you to try!

This is a quick and easy meal that is super yummy, packed with vitamins and protein.
*Cook until eggs are set. This says 18-20 minutes, but I actually cooked mine a lot longer.

Zucchini Frittata

{learn how to make these recipe cards here}

I actually used a pie pan for this recipe, but you can use any 8x8 pan.

Enjoy!

~our pantry~one year later~

Back in 2017 I made over our pantry. You can read all about it here.
I wanted to share an update on how the shelving is working out for us.

Here are some things that over the last year I decided I cannot live without for pantry organization.

Here is why I love these so much.
Every inch counts. Don't take up extra shelf space, and utilize the walls!
These baskets hold paper products perfectly. I use the other one for recipes I rip out of magazines or print off the internet.
Love, love, love these.

These labels are very old school looking and I just love them. The whole machine is under $10 too, so that's a bonus! Buy extra label tape because I guarantee you are going to want to label everything with this easy label maker!

These jars keep everything fresh with their screw on aluminum lids.

Weck jars come in all shapes and sizes and are great for nuts, chocolate chips, coffee beans, raisins, etc.
They are pretty and functional at the same time.

A pantry must have.
Having matching, or very similar ones makes it look pretty too.
There's nothing worse than trying to keep bags of chips, boxes of pancake mix, etc. standing upright.
Baskets keep everything neatly together.

I like to group items in different baskets.
One may contain kids snacks, the other protein bars.
The larger ones hold wine and boxes of almond and soy milk.
I have used a combination of these large baskets, along with these.

These are an inexpensive way to get the most vertical space out of your shelving.
I used them for canned goods.

These will keep your cereal fresher longer.

I hope you can take some of these tips and run with them!
Have fun organizing and prettying up your pantry.

~a swoon worthy beach house~

This house is so great, I just had to share. I stumbled upon it here.
Shingles are a must for a cottage style beach house.

The white shiplap is stunning with the black doors.

These benches are perfect for a long narrow hall.

More wood and white. Lots of texture happening to keep it from looking too bland.
This table has a similar vibe.
Here is a similar floor lamp.

Isn't this area so cozy?
All this white and it doesn't look cold at all.

All the natural textures play a nice juxtaposition with the polished chrome fixtures.

Love the beach accents that aren't way over the top themey.

Such simple decor.
I love the oversized scale.

And of course, a man cave!

This truly looks like the most relaxing beach home. Very high end without looking to pretentious. Wouldn't you agree?
