I am so excited to be guest hosting today for My Five Favorites, a series hosted by Jennifer from Dimples & Tangles, Kris from Driven By Decor, Lisa from Shine Your Light, and Pam from Simple Details each month.
I particularly love this topic because mixing old with new is the only way I decorate!
Mixing old in with new keeps things from feeling too stuffy, and it also adds personality to a room.
1~ Use vintage trays or caddies:
Hit up your local thrift store or your favorite junk shop and you are sure to find silver plated trays.
The aged silver looks amazing next to the fresh clean finish of the black shelving.
This old divided wood caddy holds vintage silverware, and all my new napkin rings.
2~Use vintage bowls and containers for wine or other food displays
Look for unusual old containers to not only display wine, but Popsicles, or even non related food items like new utensils on the counter, or decorative objects.
3~Mixing textiles
On our sons bed I have mixed new Pine Cone Hill and Pottery Barn pillows with vintage mud cloth pillows for an eclectic look.
4~Don't turn down old furniture
In the same room, a beat up old leather chair is a comfy spot to sit.
Check Craigslist often for furniture that you can give a new life too, or simply clean up and put right in your room.
This chair has a new table and tray next to it, and along with the other new furnishings, it keeps the room looking like it's all from a junk shop.
5~Make new old again
I made this Malibu sign from a new piece of artwork I found at Home Goods in the clearance section.
After distressing it, it looks like a vintage piece of art.
Thank you to all the hosts for letting me be a part of this fun series!
Now it's time to hop over and check out the inspiration my co-hosts are sharing - visit them here:
