before and after

My clients living room got a refresh and it turned out beautifully!!

I first went over there about a month ago and took a look at her space and made a list of her wants for the room.

Then I compiled a list for her of products to buy within the allotted budget.

After she ordered them and got them in, I went over and we "shopped her house" for accents.

Finally, a quick trip to a couple local shops for some missing pieces and voila, a whole new fresh space!

The top pic is the before. It wasn't a bad space by an means, she just wanted newer furniture and a new look.
I took into account the shape of the fireplace, the wood tones, and the cool tin ceiling when selecting pieces.

This coffee table was an obvious choice for me because of the wood tones, the metal accents {remember the tin ceiling?} and the fact that is has a ton of storage. Storage was a requirement from the homeowner because they have a lot of blankets and don't always want them out.

It was a pretty reasonably priced piece and is beautiful in person.

We repurposed the mirror into the dining room where it was suited better. A quick trip to Target and we had a new round mirror. I really wanted a black framed one, but we were impatient and bought this one thinking if it didn't work we could spray paint it. The aged brass finish actually works really well with the colors in the room.

The large glass vase and faux stems came from another space in her home.

I did have her buy the 2 large floor lamps. I feel like they balance the fireplace nicely and add a soft glow to the room. They are perfect topped with linen shades.

I also streamlined the mantle a bit by adding a simple pair of glass hurricanes with a small rectangular tray between. She can add seasonal decor to the tray, as she loves decorating for holidays.

I think my favorite part of the room is the new chairs. They were by far the biggest splurge and the homeowner loves traditional, so it was a big leap of faith for her to purchase these. The whole family loves them though and they are so happy they went with my suggestion. If any of you are thinking about getting the Wells chairs, don't hesitate! They are super comfortable and as you can see, work well in a traditional space as well as a modern space. The color here is vintage caramel.

I had her get faux fur cream lumbar pillows to tie into her new sofa, which she bought locally.

Now, do you see that wall behind the couch with the corbels?
I actually suggested a book shelf to her, because she likes storage and has a ton of books. I felt like it would occupy that wall with more of a purpose. She got the shelf locally but this is a similar one.
On the other side of the room sits her new couch. We left the artwork on the wall behind the couch as it was great! Photos taken by the homeowner and enlarged onto canvas'

I love incorporating sentimental items into peoples spaces. In fact, you can't see from the pictures here, but I also hung a couple pieces of art made by her kids.
And here is a few more pictures I took just for fun. I apologize for the quality, I only had my camera phone on me!

Friday favorites

Hello!

Happy Friday AND happy March!

Typing that just made me so happy. One month closer to warm weather.

I feel like I have a ton to share with you today. I feel like I have found so many good things this week, and I want to share them all with you!

Lets start with this:

Watch this Webisode. Anyone who loves modern design, heck, even if you don't, you just might now.

If you do like the modern look, and are in the market for new barstools, these might just be for you!

Looking for a neutral rug with a ton of texture? I love this one. And, it's on sale, even better.

I have heard this stuff is the bomb. Haven't tried it yet, but I always love a good BB cream.

Speaking of inexpensive beauty products, I have used this for years {like 15!} and I love the way it makes my skin feel. Never greasy, and it tingles so you feel super clean and fresh.

Another World Market product I am loving, is this mirror. I don't know why I had never seen it before this week. It is so good!

I love anything with a rose scent. Freshen up with this spray. It will keep your face hydrated in this winter weather.

Tight on storage space? This garment rack might be just what you need.

Stack these on the shelves for a really chic look.

I also came across a really good looking round coffee table. Check this out, the price is incredibly affordable!

Our daughter Savannah has a new blog! Click here to read!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Thrifty Thursday

I am so excited to share with you today's Thrifty Thursday project.

I was really drawn to this piece of art at CB2.

It is called Basalt painting and it has a layered modern design with touches of silver as well as my favorite neutrals.

But as much as I loved it, it was a little big for my space, so I decided to make my own!

This was seriously the easiest project and I only spent around $35 to make the entire thing.

I went to Ross because they always have inexpensive artwork. I had 2 criteria:

1-it needed to be the right size

and

2-it needed to have a similar style frame.

Bingo! The right size. The right frame. It didn't matter what the colors or subject matter was, because that was all getting painted over.

The first thing I did was spray paint the entire piece black, frame, front, everything.

Then I printed out a picture of the CB2 painting and using acrylics I had on hand, and started adding layers of whites, blacks, and silvers. I even got some metallic white and black paint and added those in here and there.

I started out with a brush and put color on that way.

Then I moved to a putty knife and added the paint that way to build up texture. This painting already had a bit of texture on it, so that was a bonus.

It isn't exact, but I am totally OK with that. I am happy with the way it turned out, and even happier I saved around $500!

What do you think?

Stripe pillows are from the fabulous Oliver and Rust!

Joanna Gaines for Anthropologie

Did you hear about the new line by Joanna Gaines at Anthropologie?

It is magical and such a great collaboration!

Everything is just fabulous, but here are a few of my favorite things:

These wool pillows look so fluffy and soft!

The Isabel rug has the perfect colors.

This is a sweet blush pink pillow.

This wallpaper is great for a fun but neutral backdrop to any room.

I still need to get my hands on this book!

I bet this smells amazing!

I am so happy for their continued success!

Purina ONE 28 day challenge

Hello there!

As many of you know, we are huge animal lovers and have three labs all under the age of 6.

We love our fur babies. I am sure if you have pets, you all know how important it is to keep them in tip top shape, because we want them around FOREVER, am I right?

When Purina asked me if I had any overweight dogs, and would I like to put them on a 28 day challenge with Purina One, I immediately jumped at the chance.

Meet Oakley.

Oakley is 4 years old and is an English Lab. He is our laziest dog out of the three, and doesn't get much exercise. He loves lounging around, and napping in his special chair.

I took this 28 day challenge very seriously because I wanted him to lose the weight and get some energy back.

Before the challenge he weighted in at a  little over 100 pounds. The vet kept telling me to put him on some really expensive diet food, which I contemplated, but then this less expensive option with
 Purina ONE came about.

And here he is after the challenge.
He has lost about 5 pounds and he has a ton more energy! I am so happy to have found this dog food because it not only will save me money, but Oakley is way happier with this new found energy.

This pet food comes in a variety for dogs as well as cats, so if you have an overweight cat, you should try it out!

Click here to take the 28 day challenge and to receive a free bag!

Friday favorites

I love the look of ticking, stripes, all of the above. When I found these sheets I thought I'd give them a try. We are using them on my sons bed and he loves them. They are super cute. I will get a pic of them on his bed soon!

I am in love with this chair! Look how cozy it looks! Give me all the sherpa, sherpa anything.

Have you guys seen the Le Creuset in the color "sea salt" Wow, just wow. Saving up for this dutch oven for sure. It's pretty enough to leave on the counter.

20% off throws and pillows at Williams Sonoma Home.

Call me boring, but I love this one.

The combo of that plus this would be so dreamy.

This piece of art screams spring to me.

I have always been a fan of blue and these pillows are just the right shade.

These baskets are a lighter version for spring storage.

Have a great weekend!
